Q9 I work from 8 am to 5 pm. Is there before and after school care available?

Schools have long run on their own timing. At The Renaissance Preparatory Academy, we have tried to be sensitive to the needs of our working parents. Our extended hours mean that some time where your child would have been in day care is now part of the academic day. We also have available for an additional cost before and after school care, as well as, intersession day camps that cover the same general time period as the school day.

Before School Care = Round Tables

Picture
In the mornings, children are dropped off at the tree by the playground. The general traffic pattern is to come into the parking lot of the Greek Orthodox Church and immediately turn right to the end of the row. Turn left and go past the Big Squre Building where the school rents space. Turn left again and come up to the playground and the tree where children are let out of the car. Cars then leave by turning left again and going strait out of the parking lot. On all mornings except when it is raining, sleeting or below 0, children will play outside or hang out by the picnic tables. Be sure to dress them for this outdoor experience (i.e. have sweaters or the jackets when the weather turns crisp. Sunscreen is always a good idea.) You may drop your child off as early as 7:30 without an additional charge. However, if you need to drop your child off before 7:30 then you will need to enroll in the Round Table morning care.

After School Care = Clubs & Sports

Picture
School is in session until 4:00 pm. Around that time, children will be lead back out to the playground and will play there or sit at the picnic tables until 4:10. Picking up your child until 4:10 has no additional fee; pick ups after that have a fee associated with them.  After 4:10, children go inside to either a club or study hall; or go to the athletic field (see top picture) for sports instruction. If you arrive by 4:30 to pick up your child, you will be charged for that time and will need to park (there are parking places along The Hall across from the playground) and come in the front Lobby. The Commons is on the right. This first session runs until 4:55 at that time, children again come out for a play period until 5:10. You can opt to pay for one hour of child care and have your child attend this session or two hours which let the children stay for the second session. Clubs and sports training are announced at the beginning of the term. At 5:10 another session begins. It follows the same pattern. Some activities involve both sessions but there will still be the 15 minutes of play between the two to give time for a bathroom break and drinking from the water fountain. At 5:55, children come out to the playground for the last time. All children must be picked up by 6:10 pm. After 6:10 pm, the charge is $10 per 10 minutes.

Enrichment Sessions for the 3 weeks between terms = Intersession Day Camps

Picture
Each week during the breaks between terms is a day camp. The day camps have a morning session and an afternoon session with an hour between. The hour before the first session and between the sessions are Round Tables. Just like in the regular term, unless it is a special event, children bring a bagged lunch each day. The camps range from exploring the sea shore, taking hikes in nature reserves, to putting on a theatrical performance. Most camps have a presentation for parents at the end. Some camps meet on campus, some meet at local specialty facilities or state parks. The set of camps for the upcoming break is announced 4 weeks before the break. There are opportunities for registration from the time the new schedule is announced until the start of the week. After that, only drop in is available. Relative costs are: full 10 week preregistered and paid monthly with tuition is the cheapest per hour; preregistration before the start of the week is slightly more. Daily drop ins is the most expensive way to go but does provide for emergency care if other alternatives fall apart. Specific dates that the intersession day camps will be offered are found on the yearly calendar for the school.
