Curriculum

We are a community of those that find learning fun and challenging. We believe that building from basic skills sets a firm learning foundation. Our goal is to help each child discover and achieve personal wonder and success in learning to do challenging things well!

We use an advanced standard that is geared towards producing students capable of strong academic advancement in high school, college, and, frankly, capable of continued life long learning suitable for entrepreneurs and professionals.

What is in the curriculum?

Foundation Subjects
Morning Topics are evaluated in a competence and students may not move on until they have demonstrated that they have learned the topics well enough to apply them.  "I-LEAP" goals are developed for each student at the start of each term. These "Individualized Learning Engagement and Activity Plans" form the basis for the assessment of the learning for each student.
Due to this intensely personalized form of education,
our class sizes max out at 15 students.
Foundation subjects are: Arithmetic, Composition, Handwriting, Reading, Social Engagement Practice and Early Entrepreneurship Labs
(Recesses!), and Technology.

Theme Units
     Following the “whole” person
of the renaissance, our enriching program includes organization skills, courtesy (manners)and character training, and themed action units. Our integrated subjects include: fine arts, humanities, sciences, social sciences, physical education, & foreign language (American Sign Language).
The theme units have a three-year rotation.
Year 1 themes include: Manners (Introductions & Respect), Family Relationships, Natural Disasters, Pets From All Areas, Maps of Our Local, County, and State, Geographic Biomes of the US, Planets in our Neighborhood, Sun and Energy, Sun and Plants). The depth of investigation into these units depends upon the ages of the student.
Memorization skills are linked to poetry (including nursery rhymes and songs), important American documents, and key speeches of leaders.

See the "Our Activities" change monthly so that as your child develops, he/she is placed in just the right class environment. Students are encouraged to move at their own challenging pace through the program. Students promote to the next grade once they have demonstrated that they know and use the skills of the lower level grade consistently.  For most, this does not require a change of "classmates". Each student stays with the same instructor for the years that he/she is in the grades that the instructor teaches.
