If you dig deep enough on our website, you’ll come to an explanation of our shield. Each aspect of our shield has deep meaning for us.

The earlier post on “Grit” came about because we used “grit” to guide the development of our Latin motto: Curiosum, Humanitas, Fortitude, and Opus. Basically, we chose “Fortitude and Opus” because they encapsulate the meaning in the Anglo-Saxon four-letter word, GRIT!

However, that is not the only aspect of our motto that is receiving confirmation by the larger community. If you have liked us on Facebook, you will have seen a shared posting talking about “old school manners”. That concept of what used to be common courtesy is also embedded in our motto under the heading of “HUMANITAS”.

Humanitas is a Latin word with a complex meaning. The concept includes elements of civilization (civilized company), courtesy, culture, education, learning, kindness, politeness and scholarship. We view the word as combining chivalry and scholarship! You can see how it stacks up with those “old school manners”.

When we talk about instilling values in our children, we mean:
  1. We develop their curiosity so that it becomes a driver of learning;
  2. We show them how they can be both chivalrous and someone who never stops learning;
  3. We help them exhibit courage in the face of obstacles-- to have fortitude to persist.
  4. Finally, we help them to develop a strong work ethic -- to do their best whether is it an assigned task or an internally driven deed that they are working on!

Face it; what used to be common courtesy, now enables someone to stand out in the crowd!
You can give your child or grandchild a leg up in hour highly competitive world by sending them to a school that doesn't pamper them but one that allows competitions to have winners and losers and one that explicitly teaches them how to handle both winning and losing! A school that models and teaches them how to have, humanitas!
